Psychodynamic therapy is particularly well suited to the pushing-away pattern because the pattern will inevitably surface within the therapeutic relationship itself. A patient who shuts people out will at some point begin to shut out the therapist, through cancellations, emotional withdrawal in sessions, surface-level engagement, or subtle signals that the therapist should not get too close. These moments are not setbacks. They are the pattern making itself available for examination in real time, which is far more productive than discussing the pattern abstractly.
Dr. David Steinbok provides psychodynamic psychotherapy from his Boca Raton, Florida office, serving adults throughout the Boynton Beach area. His practice is private-pay with monthly statements for out-of-network insurance reimbursement. The office is designed for privacy, with no receptionist present.
