Psychodynamic Therapy for Male Intimacy Avoidance

Psychodynamic therapy addresses fear of intimacy at the level where it operates: beneath conscious awareness, within the relational patterns the patient brings into every significant connection. The therapist does not advise the patient on how to behave differently in relationships. The therapeutic relationship itself becomes the space where the avoidance surfaces, is recognized, and is gradually understood. A patient who withdraws emotionally when a session gets too personal is doing the same thing he does with a partner. The difference is that in therapy, the moment can be paused and explored.

Dr. David Steinbok provides psychodynamic psychotherapy from his Boca Raton, Florida office. His practice is private-pay with monthly documentation for out-of-network insurance reimbursement. The office has no receptionist and is designed for complete privacy. To schedule, call (561) 362-9952.
